PITMAN, N.J. – After holding the line and helping the Sea Gulls win their third straight game, linebacker Josh Barker and defensive back Colin Wargo have been named New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Defensive Player and Defensive Rookie of the Week for Week 8, respectively, announced by the league office on Monday.
 
Barker, a senior from Vienna, Va., led SU on the defensive side with eight tackles, including five solo efforts, in the Sea Gulls' 35-20 win at Rowan on Saturday. He also recorded an interception to ice the game in the fourth quarter. Through seven games this season, Barker has recorded 34 tackles (21 solo), tied for third on the team, and one interception.
 
Wargo, a freshman from Huntingtown, Md., set a new season high with seven tackles (three solo) in the win at Rowan. This is his second NJAC rookie recognition after picking up the honor on Oct. 10. Wargo has racked up 17 tackles for the season, all over his past five games.
 
Thanks to Barker and Wargo's eye for the ball in Glassboro, Salisbury improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in NJAC play with its third straight victory.
 
Barker, Wargo, and the Sea Gulls return to the Eastern Shore on Saturday with a Homecoming showdown against TCNJ. Kickoff from Sea Gull Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
