Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second-half surge lifts Men’s Basketball over Pfeiffer, 81-72

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team caught fire in the second half of Saturday's contest against the Pfeiffer University Falcons, tossing 50 points on the board in the final 20 minutes to spur an 81-72 comeback victory at TowneBank Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The sides traded baskets in the early going, battling to a 12-10 score at the 13:18 mark in the first half. Pfeiffer embarked on a 6-0 run in less than a minute to take an 18-10 lead, but Salisbury responded with five straight points to cut the lead back to three.
  • The Falcons pulled away in the first half, in part due to a 7-0 run that put them ahead 25-15. A pair of free throws from Calvin Thomas brought the margin down to nine, but that was the closest the Sea Gulls could get in the opening period, trailing 43-31 at the intermission.
  • Sidney Lebonzo needed just 13 seconds to get the Sea Gulls on the board in the second half, cashing in a layup to cut the margin to 10. Jordan Oates, Cameron Heard, and Buddah Spencer all scored in a 9-2 run for Salisbury that set the score at 45-40.
  • Free points at the line helped Pfeiffer grow the lead to eight, but a pair of quick Salisbury baskets less than 30 seconds later brought the margin back to five, 50-45.
  • The Sea Gulls brought the gap down to one on multiple occasions over the next eight and a half minutes before a jumper from Heard finally pushed SU over the top, 63-62. Salisbury outscored the Falcons 18-10 through the final 5:57 of game time to lock down the 81-72 win.
