Women's Soccer season ends against UC Santa Cruz, 1-0

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The third-seeded Salisbury University women's soccer saw its2023 season end after a 1-0 loss to the second-seeded UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Tournament semifinals, hosted by Mary Washington on Friday afternoon at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UC Santa Cruz came out of the gate swinging, recording the first three shots of the contest in the first 15 minutes. The first shot was blocked by the defense while the next two were saved by Riley Pinato.
  • Much like in the first half, the Banana Slugs opened the second half with control of the ball. UC Santa Cruz finally broke through the Salisbury defense in the 52nd minute when Camille Anneet managed to get a shot by Pinato, giving the Banana Slugs the lead.
  • Ashley Pantano tried to even things up for the Sea Gulls, taking the only two shots by Salisbury. However, Amelia Brown stood tall in goal for UC Santa Cruz, recording saving one shot while the second one missed wide.

  • Camille Anneet scored the lone goal while taking two shots during the contest.
  • Amelia Brown recorded one save to secure the shutout victory.
  • The Banana Slugs outshot the Sea Gulls, 13 to two.
  • UC Santa Cruz held Salisbury to only one corner while earning two of their own.
WRAPPING UP
  • Salisbury wraps up the 2023 season with a 10-7-2. The 10 wins are the Sea Gulls' most in a season since 2019 and the sixth time SU has recorded double-digit wins under head coach Kwame Lloyd.
