Berkman tabbed as 2023 Division III USILA Coach of the Year

SALISBURY, Md. – After securing the Salisbury University men's lacrosse program's 13th national championship back in May, head coach Jim Berkman was named the 2023 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III Coach of the Year as announced by the organization on Friday morning.

The NCAA's all-time winningest men's lacrosse coach continues to cement his unparalleled legacy with Salisbury. Berkman, a four-time Division III National Coach of the Year, stands alone as the only coach in NCAA men's lacrosse history to surpass both 500 and 600 career wins. He currently holds 620 victories across his 36 seasons and has tied the record for most wins in a single season (23) four times.

Berkman has received no shortage of accolades in recent months, most recently being selected among the Baltimore-based Daily Record's 2023 listing of Influential Marylanders in July. Berkman is also set to be inducted into the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) Hall of Fame on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Omni Orlando Resort, announced back in July as well.

The 2013 inductee into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame has guided the Sea Gulls to 35 conference championships and 34 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances dating back to 1989. Berkman has steered his squads to eight undefeated seasons (1994-95, 2004-05, 2007-08, 2012, 2020) and holds the longest career winning streak in NCAA history at 69 games.

Berkman's impact on the game of lacrosse has been immense. He has coached 253 All-Americans, 56 National Players of the Year, and 26 Conference Players of the Year while garnering 12 Conference Coach of the Year awards. Berkman has seen 14 players drafted to play professional lacrosse under his guidance.
