Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Defensive battle goes against Men’s Basketball in C2C Semifinals

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Salisbury University men's basketball fell short in a defensive battle, 57-50, with the second-seeded Mary Washington Eagles in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Men's Basketball Championship semifinal round on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams were locked in on defense to start the game. Brandon Craig knocked down a tough jumper at the 13:34 mark to tie the game at 6-6.
  • Brendan Davis made layups on back-to-back possessions to give the Sea Gulls a 10-6 lead with just over 12 minutes left in the first half.
  • Mary Washington answered with a 7-0 run to retake the lead, but a triple from Kaiden Mines knotted the game back up at 13 with 8:56 on the clock.
  • The Eagles closed out the first half on a 10-3 run to send the teams into halftime with a score of 23-16.
  • Mary Washington extended its lead out to nine, 28-19, in the opening minutes of the second half.
  • Three straight baskets by the Sea Gulls, including a three-point jump shot by Aidan Camper, brought Salisbury back within two, 28-26, with 16 minutes left to play.
  • Both teams went back-and-forth for the next few minutes until Greg Bloodsworth knocked down a long ball to tie the game at 35 with 11:34 remaining.
  • A few minutes later, Cameron Heard bombed a trey to take the lead, 40-39, at the 9:12 mark.
  • The teams traded shots and possession for the next several minutes. With the game tied at 46, Mary Washington rattled off three straight baskets to go up 52-46 with a minute left to play.
  • Bloodsworth responded with four straight points to bring Salisbury back within two, 52-50 with 43 seconds on the clock.
  • Mary Washington added five more points at the free throw line in the closing moments to give the game its final score of 57-50.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury shot 36.2 percent (17-for-47) from the field, including 27.3 percent (6-for-22) from three-point range.
  • Greg Bloodsworth led the Sea Gulls with a game-high 17 points. He also added three assists and two rebounds.
  • Brandon Craig and Brendan Davis each scored eight points. Craig added four rebounds, three steals, and two assists to his line. Davis dished out three assists and grabbed five boards.
  • Jordan Oates hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds and added five points.
MARY WASHINGTON GAME NOTES
  • Mary Washington shot 45.7 percent (21-for-46) from the field, including 9.1 percent (1-for-11) from three-point range.
  • Greg Rowson led the Eagles with 13 points and seven rebounds.
  • Andrew Rowson and Dashawn Cook each added 10 points.
THE WRAP
  • Salisbury finished the 2022-23 season with a 12-15 overall record and a 1-4 record in conference.
