No. 4 Women’s Lacrosse drops low-scoring affair with No. 8 Washington & Lee

LEXINGTON, Va. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team fell on the road to the No. 8 Washington & Lee Generals, 6-5, in the final minutes of a defensive standoff on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Riley Hartman put the Sea Gulls on the board just two minutes into the match with a free-position goal. Her goal sparked a 4-0 run to give Salisbury the lead with 9:45 left in the first.
  • Washington & Lee closed out the quarter with two unanswered goals.
  • The Generals extended its run to four and tied the game back up with a free-position goal from Walker McKnight with 5:05 remaining in the second quarter.
  • Miranda Mears picked up a loose ground ball in front of the crease and netted her second goal of the day to retake the lead for the Sea Gulls with 1:29 left and send the teams into halftime with a score of 5-4.
  • Both defenses were locked in for the third quarter. Washington & Lee scored the lone goal of the quarter and knotted the game at five with a goal from Allie Schwab at the 8:35 mark.
  • The defenses remained stout in the fourth quarter until the Generals broke the tie with a goal from McKnight with just 1:56 remaining to give the game its final score of 6-5.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES WASHINGTON & LEE GAME NOTES
  • Walker McKnight led the Generals with three points on two goals and an assist.
  • Allie Schwab scored two goals.
  • Eugenie Rovegno caused three turnovers and collected three ground balls.
  • Caroline Kranich earned the win with seven saves in goal.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls return to the confines of Sea Gull Stadium when they host Eastern Shore rival, Washington College, on Saturday, March 4.
  • The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. Before the game, the team will recognize the 2013 National Championship team.
