No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse outlasts Washington, 9-6

SALISBURY, Md. – The fifth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team outlasted its Eastern Shore rival, Washington College, 9-6, on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams wasted no time getting on the board. Washington started the scoring with a goal from Abby Laubauch just over a minute into the game. Leah Vilov answered for Salisbury at the 11:53 mark.
  • The teams traded goals again just a few minutes later after Ellie Morrall scored for the Shorewomen. Emma Skoglund notched a goal for Salisbury to tie it back up at two with 10 minutes left in the first.
  • Salisbury closed out the first quarter with two unanswered goals from Skoglund and Caroline Knight to give SU its first lead of the game, 4-2.
  • Riley Hartman scored the lone goal of the second quarter to give the Sea Gulls a 5-2 lead at halftime.
  • The Sea Gulls extended its lead out to seven, 9-2, with a 4-0 run to start the third quarter. The run featured goals from Mary Hanzsche, Miranda Mears, Meridith Price and Hartman's second score of the day.
  • Morrall stifled the run with a goal at the 7:24 mark of the third to make it 9-3.
  • Washington closed out the game with three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter, but the lead was too much for them to overcome and the game finished with a final score of 9-6.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Mary Hanzsche led the Sea Gulls with three points on two assists and a goal.
  • Riley Hartman and Emma Skoglund each scored two goals.
  • Seven different Sea Gulls notched a goal.
  • Natalie Held caused a game-high three turnovers.
  • Kaitlyn Hunsinger earned the win in goal with four saves and two goals allowed.
  • Gabby Dorsey also saw time in the net with six saves and four goals allowed.
WASHINGTON GAME NOTES
  • Abby Laubauch, Ellie Morral and Mia Salvatierra each scored two goals.
  • Ashley Devlin and Morgan Sutherland each tallied an assist.
  • Sydney Wingate got the start in goal and tallied five saves and allowed nine goals.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury will travel across the bridge tomorrow to take on No. 7 Colby in a neutral-site contest.
  • The opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Anne Arundel Community College.
