Walk-off walk in nightcap seals sweep of Pfeiffer

SALISBURY, Md. – The third-ranked Salisbury University softball team toughed out a doubleheader sweep over the Pfeiffer Falcons on Friday to improve to 12-0 on the season. Lindsey Windsor shut down Pfeiffer in Game 1 with a 5-0 shutout. A bases-loaded walk by Emily Stockman allowed the Sea Gulls to come back in Game 2 with a 6-5 win over the Falcons.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • Abby Mace roped a leadoff double off the left-field wall to begin the game for Salisbury. Three batters later, Maddison Lednum brought Mace home on an RBI groundout to shortstop to start the scoring for SU. Carrie Jacoby followed with an RBI single to left to plate Jillian Dawson to give SU the 2-2 lead.
  • Sam Flowers pushed Salisbury's lead to 3-0 in the second after she scored from third base on a wild pitch.
  • Jacoby tacked on her second RBI of the opener with another RBI single in the fifth inning to score Windsor to extend Salisbury's lead to 4-0.
  • Pfeiffer looked to get on the board in the top of the sixth with a double by Emma Bullin to left field but Flowers and Natalie Paoli teamed up to cut down Caiti Mickles at the plate and keep Pfeiffer off the board.
  • Salisbury added insurance in the sixth when Paoli scored from third on a wild pitch to make the lead, 5-0.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES – GAME 1
  • Carrie Jacoby and Emily Stockman went 2-for-3. Jacoby drove in a pair of runs on two singles.
  • Abby Mace scored and hit a double.
  • Maddison Lednum drove in a run on a groundout in the first.
  • Lindsey Windsor (W, 3-0) picked up the win with a complete-game shutout. She struck out six, scatted four hits and walked three. Windsor also added a hit at the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
  • After Jillian Dawson walked and stole second, Maddison Lednum drove her in with an RBI single to left field.
  • Savannah Sheats got in trouble in the second inning with two runners on and no outs but she worked out of the jam with back-to-back fielder's choices and a strikeout.
  • Salisbury tacked on a run in the second inning after Lexie Delcollo stole second and scored on a throwing error by the Pfeiffer catcher.
  • Abby Mace forced another error by the Pfeiffer catcher as she scored from second base to extend Salisbury's lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
  • Pfeiffer took advantage of two Salisbury errors to plate five runs in the fourth inning.
  • The Sea Gulls quickly got those runs back and tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth. Emily Stockman hit a triple down the right field to score Taylor Scott from first base. Madi Lemon followed with an RBI single to center to plate Stockman and tie the game at five.
  • Lindsey Windsor came to pitch in the sixth and faced two runners in scoring position and no outs. Windsor cut down a runner at home and then forced Alexis Yarboro to pop out to leave the game tied.
  • After a scoreless sixth and the top of the seventh inning, Salisbury loaded the bases with back-to-back singles by Lednum and Natalie Paoli and an intentional walk to Ellen Stockman. Emily Stockman drew four straight balls to allow Salisbury to walk-off winners.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES – GAME 2
  • Maddison Lednum went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
  • Emily Stockman hit her first career triple and brought home two runs.
  • Lauren Meyers was a perfect 2-for-2.
  • Savannah Sheats, Nicole Ortega and Lindsey Windsor (W, 4-0) all spend time in the circle in the nightcap. Sheats struck out three in the start but allowed seven hits and three runs (one earned) in 3.1 innings. Windsor did not allow a hit in two innings of relief to earn the victory.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury has a quick turnaround as they face the Ursinus Bears tomorrow in a doubleheader.
  • The game is set for a 1 p.m. start at Sea Gull Softball Stadium.
