No. 3 Softball takes two from Ursinus

SALISBURY, Md. – The third-ranked Salisbury University softball team continued its hot start to the season on a freezing cold Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of the Ursinus Bears. The Sea Gulls erased an early 3-0 deficit to take an 8-5 victory in Game 1 over the Bears followed by a 12-0 run-rule win in Game 2.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • Ursinus scored first in the top of the second inning. Allyson Meakim hit a two-run double to left and later stole home to give the Bears a 3-0 lead.
  • Salisbury quickly tied the game in the bottom half of the second. Emily Stockman scored on an RBI groundout by Sam Flowers. Natalie Paoli and Maddison Lednum followed later in the inning with RBI doubles to tie the game at three.
  • Back-to-back RBIs in the third inning with a single by Flowers and a double by Paoli to give SU the 5-3 lead midway through the game.
  • The Sea Gulls tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Lauren Meyers beat out an infield single to score McKenna Horner. A batter later, Emily Stockman drove in Ellen Stockman on a double down the left-field line to push the SU lead to 7-3.
  • Ursinus cut into the lead, 7-5, in the top of the fifth with an RBI single by Samantha Wichman and Amanda Panati scoring on an error.
  • Lednum gave SU insurance in a big way with a home run over the left-field wall.
