No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse takes down No. 9 Gettysburg, 10-8

GETTYSBURG, Pa.  – The fifth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team recorded its second ranked win in a row and third of the season with a 10-8 road win on Saturday over the ninth-ranked Gettysburg Bullets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury got on the board early with its first possession. Mary Hanzsche found a cutting Leah Vilov who put the ball in the back of the net give the Sea Gulls a 1-0 advantage just over two minutes into the game.
  • Gettysburg answered with a goal from Julia Daly with 11 minutes left in the first quarter.
  • Riley Hartman and Erin Scannell put away goals on back-to-back possessions to give Salisbury a 3-1 lead at the 9:32 mark of the first.
  • Katie Fullowan notched a goal for the Bullets to close out the scoring in the first.
  • Emma Skoglund found the back of the net on another Hanzsche assist to open the second quarter and give Salisbury a 4-2 lead.
  • Gettysburg responded with a 3-1 run to tie the game up at five heading into halftime.
  • The Sea Gulls opened the second half with back-to-back goals. Hartman tallied her second score of the day on a free-position goal, then assisted on a tough shot by Miranda Mears to put Salisbury up 7-5 with 7:10 left in the third quarter.
  • The Bullets answered with two goals of their own to send the teams into the final period knotted at seven goals each.
  • Salisbury opened the fourth quarter on another 2-0 run with goals from Hartman and Meridith Price to give the Sea Gulls a 9-7 lead with just over nine minutes left to play.
  • Jordan Basso brought Gettysburg back within one, 9-8, with 3:04 left on the clock.
  • Following a turnover by the Bullets, Vilov notched her second goal of the day with 55 seconds remaining to give the game its final score of 10-8.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Riley Hartman tallied a career-high five points with three goals and two assists.
  • Erin Scannell and Leah Vilov each scored two goals. Vilov also added three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
  • Mary Hanzsche dished out two assists.
  • Kaitlyn Hunsinger earned the win in goal and tallied seven saves. She also caused two turnovers and collected three ground balls.
GETTYSBURG GAME NOTES
  • Katie Fullowan led the Bullets with four points on two goals and two assists.
  • Jordan Basso and Julia Daly each scored two goals.
  • Gill Cortese tallied seven saves in goal for the Bullets.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury continues its gauntlet of top-10 showdowns against No. 8 William and Smith on Saturday, March 18 in a neutral site contest at Tierney Field at the USA Lacrosse Complex.
  • The opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Sparks, Md.
