Trio of three-setters highlight match vs. TCNJ

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team fought hard but stumbled in its final match before Spring Break with a 5-4 defeat to the TCNJ Lions on Sunday. The Sea Gulls will head to the break with a 4-2 overall record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Russell Willenborg and Jhayden Pappas took down Akul Telluri and Nick Matkiwsky in second doubles, 8-4.
  • Both teams of Gianluca Beaujon and Mitchell Desman, and Aron Bursztyn and Jacob Berg fell 8-5 in their respective doubles matches.
  • Despite falling behind early, Salisbury was able to split the singles matches with TCNJ.
  • In fifth singles, Bursztyn prevailed in a marathon three-setter with Derek Jordan. Both of the first two sets went to tiebreakers and Bursztyn rallied after dropping the second set to take the match, 7-6(7-2), 6-7(3-7), 10-6.
  • Pappas battled back after dropping the second set to Adrain Tsui to win second singles, 7-5, 2-6, 10-5.
  • Gavin Reagle closed out the day with a 4-6. 7-5. 10-8 win over Brett Schuster in sixth singles.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury will head south to Orlando, Fla. for a four-match slate during Spring Break.
  • The break begins against Luther on Sunday, March 19.
