Men’s Tennis splits with Huntingdon, Hobart on final day in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team split a pair of matches on the final day of its Spring Break trip at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. SU opened the day with a 9-0 sweep of the Huntingdon Hawks before falling to the Hobart Statemen, 7-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED – HUNTINGDON
  • Jhayden Pappas and Russell Willenborg swept through Cameron Reed and Tanner Lynn, 8-0, in second doubles.
  • First doubles team of Gianluca Beaujon and Aron Bursztyn and third doubles tandem of Christopher Catan and Mitchell Desman earned 8-2 wins in their respective matches.
  • Catan and Jacob Berg blanked their matches in third and sixth singles respectively.
  • Willenborg picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lane Young in No. 1 singles.
  • Bursztyn earned a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 2 singles.
  • Gavin Reagle swept the first set against Clint Robinson then cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win in fourth singles.
  • Desman clinched the sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Rowland Cobb.
HOW IT HAPPENED – HOBART
  • Christopher Catan and Mitchell Desman toughed out an 8-7(7-5) win in third doubles over Nick Grosso and Winter Fagerberg.
  • Jhayden Pappas and Russell Willenborg were on the opposite end of a tiebreaker in second doubles, 8-7(7-4), against Nick Fischer and Aidan Staunton.
  • Gavin Reagle notched the line singles win in the sixth match over Rahul Vallabhajosula, 6-4, 6-4.
  • Pappas, Willenborg and Aron Bursztyn dropped three-set matches in their respective singles matches.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury returns to Maryland and will take on the St. Mary's Seahawks on Wednesday, March 29.
  • The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at St. Mary's City.
