No. 1 Softball takes season series over No. 16 Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The top-ranked Salisbury University softball team avenged its only loss of the season on Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep over the 16th-ranked Lynchburg Hornets. Salisbury run-ruled Lynchburg, 9-1, in the first game before taking the second game, 9-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • It didn't take long for Salisbury to get runs across. Three doubles in four at-bats by Abby Mace, Lindsey Windsor and Lauren Meyers put SU up 2-0. After a pitching change, Maddison Lednum scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Emily Stockman to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • A leadoff triple by Mace in the third inning led to a Windsor RBI double followed by an RBI single by Lednum to push SU's lead to 5-0.
  • Salisbury added two more runs in the top of the fourth. Jillian Dawson scored after she stole third and advanced on the throwing error by the Lynchburg catcher. Meyers plated Windsor later in the inning on an RBI single to center to give the Sea Gulls the 7-0 lead.
  • After five no-hit innings, Savannah Sheats allowed her lone run of the game on a solo home run to lead off the bottom half of the fifth by Gracie Dooley.
  • However, Salisbury got that run back and added another to the run column after Meyers hit a two-run home run over the left-center field fence to extend the lead to 9-1 and put the run-rule in effect.
