No. 1 Softball concludes Spring Break trip with split over Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The top-ranked Salisbury University softball team split the last day of its Spring Break trip with the Randolph WildCats. A go-ahead home run in the top of the seventh by Lindsey Windsor propelled the Sea Gulls to a 3-1 win in the opener over the Wildcats. However, the WildCats overcame a five-run deficit to take the nightcap, 9-7, to seal the split. Salisbury will return to the Shore with a 22-2 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • After a leadoff walk by Natalie Paoli and an infield single by Abby Mace, Lindsey Windsor plated Paoli with an RBI single to center to begin the scoring.
  • Windsor was mowing through Randolph until the sixth inning. Dominique Irving hit a one-out double to left followed by a Lacey Lucado single moved Irving to third. Delaney Nuckols hit an RBI groundout to tie the game at one.
  • The tie didn't last long as Windsor smacked a two-run blast over the left-field wall to put SU ahead 3-1 in the seventh.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES – GAME 1
  • Lindsey Windsor (W, 7-0) got it done at the plate and in the circle. Windsor went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. She also pitched a complete-game, four-hitter with six strikeouts while allowing three walks and a run.
  • Abby Mace went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
  • Sam Flowers tallied two hits in three at-bats.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
  • Salisbury got the scoring going in the top of the second inning. Emma Coldsnow hit a two-run home run to start the scoring. Later in the inning, Abby Mace hit an RBI single to score Sam Flowers before Windsor brought Mace in with an RBI triple to left to extend the lead to 4-0 in the second.
  • A double steal on a strikeout in the third inning allowed Taylor Scott to score from third base to push the SU lead to 5-0.
  • Randolph battled back with seven runs in the bottom half of the third to take a 7-5 lead.
  • The lead was erased thanks to a two-run shot to center by Mace to tie the game at seven in the fourth inning.
  • Delaney Nuckols scored two runs on a bunt in the fourth to allow Randolph to regain the two-run lead.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES – GAME 2
  • Abby Mace went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Emma Coldsnow hit her first collegiate home run in the second inning. She also tallied two hits.
  • Lindsey Windsor and Carrie Jacoby also collected a pair of hits. Windsor hit a triple and stole two bases while Jacoby added a double.
UP NEXT
  • After a weekend off, Salisbury will be back at home on Wednesday, March 29 against Eastern Shore rival, Washington College.
  • The doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m. at Sea Gull Softball Stadium.
