No. 6 Women’s Lacrosse drops overtime thriller to No. 4 Tufts, 11-10

SALISBURY, Md. – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team fell to the fourth-ranked Tufts Jumbos, 11-10, in a thrilling overtime matchup at Sea Gull Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tufts opened the game with two goals to take an early 2-0 lead with eight minutes left in the first quarter.
  • Erin Scannell put the Sea Gulls on the board with a goal just a minute later. 15 seconds later, Madeline Delaney regained the Jumbos' two-goal advantage.
  • Meridith Price and Leah Vilov closed out the first quarter with a 2-0 run for Salisbury to send the teams into the second quarter tied at three.
  • Tufts rattled off four unanswered goals in the second quarter and held a 7-3 lead with 1:22 left until halftime.
  • Emma Skoglund notched a goal in the final seconds of the half on a free position to send the teams into halftime with a score of 7-4.
  • The third quarter saw both teams score a pair of goals. Caroline Knight and Skoglund found the back of the net for the Sea Gulls to send the teams into the fourth quarter with a score of 9-6.
  • Miranda Mears ripped a shot past the goalkeeper on Salisbury's first possession in the fourth. After some back-and-forth action throughout the fourth, Skoglund tallied her third score of the day to bring the Sea Gulls within one, 9-8, with five minutes left in regulation.
  • Caroline Walter gave the Jumbos a two-goal lead, 10-8, with 4:14 left on the clock.
  • Scannell scored her second goal of the day with 1:35 left in regulation. Riley Hartman tied the game up 30 seconds later with an off-balance shot to send the teams into overtime with a score of 10-10.
  • A minute into the first overtime period, Emma Joyce drew a foul and converted her free-position attempt for the game-winning goal and give the Jumbos the win, 11-10.

  • Four different players tallied two goals for the Jumbos.
  • Grace Frerichs caused four turnovers and collected three ground balls.
  • Courtney Kaufman tallied four saves and allowed four goals in the net.
  • Pascale de Buren earned the win and tallied four saves while allowing six goals.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury will take on Denison in a neutral-site contest hosted by CNU on Saturday, March 25.
  • The opening draw is scheduled for a 12 p.m. in Newport News, Va.
