Dominant fourth quarter propels No. 6 Women’s Lacrosse over Denison, 17-10

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team used a seven-goal fourth quarter to roll past the Denison Big Red, 17-10, on Saturday afternoon at CNU.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Denison got on the board first with a goal from Allaire Kotz at the 12:12 mark of the first quarter.
  • Caroline Knight responded for the Sea Gulls with two straight goals on back-to-back possessions to give Salisbury a 2-1 lead with 10:37 left in the first.
  • A few minutes later, Denison knotted the game at two with a goal from Ryann Yospa.
  • Two more unanswered goals from Emma Skoglund and Meridith Price gave Salisbury a 4-2 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter.
  • Denison rounded out the quarter with a goal to send the teams into the second quarter with a score of 4-3.
  • The Sea Gulls used another quick two-goal run to open the second quarter with goals from Knight and Erin Scannell to go up 6-3 just a minute into the period.
  • Both teams traded two goals each over the next several minutes to make it 8-5 with 6:25 left in the half.
  • Denison scored two goals in the closing moments of the quarter to send the teams into halftime with a score of 8-7.
  • Salisbury opened the second half with a Maggie Sanders goal to extend its lead to 9-7, but Denison answered a few minutes later to make it 9-8 with nine minutes left in the third.
  • The teams traded goals again to close out the third quarter and head into the final period with a score of 10-9.
  • The Sea Gulls opened the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run to extend its lead out to 15-9 with 9:30 remaining.
  • Jane Bailey added a goal for Denison with just under five minutes remaining to make it 15-10.
  • Salisbury added two more goals from Riley Hartman and Audrey Harrington in the closing minutes to give the game its final score of 17-10.

  • Maddie Morrell and Josie Lucchesi led Denison with three goals each.
  • Jane Bailey added two goals and one assist.
  • Caroline O'Dea tallied 11 saves in the net.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury will continue its road trip and take on seventh-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Sunday, April 2.
  • The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Lancaster, Pa.
