Mears’ late goal, Knight’s hat-trick lift No. 6 Women’s Lacrosse over No. 9 Franklin & Marshall, 10-8

LANCASTER, Pa. – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team stifled a late comeback attempt by eighth-ranked Franklin & Marshall to take a 10-8 top-10 victory with fourth-quarter goals from Miranda Mears and Caroline Knight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury got on the board first after Leah Vilov found the back of the net at the 12:40 mark of the first quarter.
  • Both defenses locked in for the next several minutes until Lydia Cassily scored for Franklin & Marshall with 5:30 on the clock.
  • Emma Skoglund ripped a shot past the goalkeeper to put Salisbury up 2-1 in the closing minutes of the first quarter.
  • The Sea Gulls started the second quarter with two unanswered goals from Vilov and Caroline Knight to go up 4-1 with 13:34 left in the half.
  • The Diplomats cut into the lead, 4-2, with a goal from Maddy Birch at the 9:47 mark.
  • Meridith Price used a goal with 6:27 on the clock to put the Sea Gulls back up three, 5-2, but Franklin & Marshall answered shortly after with a goal from Gillian Brennan.
  • Knight tallied her second goal of the day to put Salisbury up 6-3 with three minutes left in the half.
  • Lane Lambeth converted a free position for the Diplomats to send the teams into halftime with a score of 6-4.
  • Lambeth scored again for Franklin & Marshall in the opening minute of the third quarter to make it 6-5.
  • Salisbury answered with two goals the rest of the quarter from Skoglund and Riley Hartman to send the teams into the final period with a score of 8-5.
  • Franklin & Marshall opened the fourth quarter with three unanswered goals to knot the game at eight with 10:42 remaining.
  • Salisbury broke the tie with a goal from Miranda Mears at the 5:06 mark. On the Sea Gulls' next possession, Knight found the back of the net to make it 10-8 with 4:23 left on the clock.
  • Salisbury corralled possession for the final few minutes to secure the top-10 win, 10-8.

  • Maddy Birch scored three goals and had one assist.
  • Lane Lambeth scored two goals.
  • Alyssa Moran tallied 10 saves and allowed 10 goals in the net.
