Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse takes down No. 6 Colby, 14-12

ARNOLD, Md. – The fifth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team took down the sixth-ranked Colby Mules, 14-12, on Sunday to cap a perfect 2-0 weekend for the Sea Gulls and avenge a regular-season loss to the Mules last season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Emma Skoglund got the Sea Gulls on the board first with an unassisted goal two and a half minutes into the game.
  • After back-to-back Colby goals midway through the first, Erin Scannell tied the game at two with another unassisted goal.
  • Salisbury closed out the high-scoring first quarter with goals from Leah Vilov, Mary Hanzsche and Caroline Knight to take a 5-4 lead at the end of the quarter.
  • Riley Hartman netted a goal to begin the second quarter before Colby tied the game at six at the six-minute mark of the quarter with goals from Julia Jardina and Annie Eddy.
  • Goals from Hanzsche and Skoglund right before the halftime horn allowed the Sea Gulls to take a 6-4 lead over the Mules.
  • Hartman's goal a minute and a half into the second half pushed SU's lead up to three, 9-6, but Colby used a 3-1 run midway through the third quarter to cut into the SU advantage, 10-9.
  • Salisbury closed out the third quarter on a 3-0 run and added a Scannell goal at the start of the fourth to take its largest lead of the game, 14-9, with just under 13 minutes left in regulation.
  • Colby cut the margin to 14-12 with 2:19 left in the contest but the SU defense clamped down to take the top-10 win.

  • Paige Saudek led the Mules with five goals.
  • Ally Franz spearheaded the defense with two caused turnovers.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury heads north to Pennsylvania to take on the seventh-ranked Gettysburg Bullets on Saturday, March 11.
  • The game is set for a 2 p.m. start in Gettysburg.
