No. 3 Softball collects win No. 10 in sweep of Clarkson, McDaniel

SALISBURY, Md. – It was a tale of two games as the third-ranked Salisbury University softball team swept the Clarkson Golden Knights and the McDaniel Green Terror on Sunday to improve to 10-0 on the young season. Salisbury overpowered Clarkson with a 12-run third inning en route to a 23-0 run-rule win to start the day and toughed out a 3-1 win over McDaniel.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. CLARKSON
  • Salisbury struck with seven in the first inning. Natalie Paoli drove it two with a single to left to start the scoring. Lauren Meyers and Emily Stockman followed with back-to-back RBI singles. Later in the first, Sam Flowers and Abby Mace capped the inning with an RBI double and a two-run double respectively.
  • Maddison Lednum legged out an infield single to score Lindsey Windsor from third base to extend SU's lead to 8-0.
  • The floodgates opened in the third inning. The inning was highlighted by a bases-clearing triple by Alayna Gigliotti to push the SU lead to 20-0.
  • Mace sent a ball into orbit in the fourth inning for the 23rd run of the game.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES VS. CLARKSON
  • The 23 runs tied for the seventh-most runs scored in a game in team history.
  • 12 different Sea Gulls collected a hit.
  • Abby Mace went 3-for-4 with her third home run of the season and a double. She drove in five runs and scored four times. Mace's four runs scored tied for second-most in a single game in program history.
  • Lindsey Windsor went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
  • Emily Stockman, Taylor Scott, Maddison Lednum and Sam Flowers each registered a pair of hits.
  • Alayna Gigliotti and Karlie Wolfe picked up their first collegiate hits. Gigliotti drove in three with her triple in the third while Wolfe roped an RBI single in the inning.
  • Nicole Ortega (W, 5-0) cruised to her fifth win of the season. She struck out three and only allowed a hit in three innings.
  • Madison Taylor pitched the final two innings and struck out two with a walk and a hit allowed.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. MCDANIEL
  • McDaniel capitalized on a throwing error by SU to get on the board first in the second inning.
  • The Sea Gulls quickly tied the game and took the lead in the bottom half of the second. After a Lauren Meyers one-out double, Madi Lemon plated Taylor Scott with an RBI single to left center. Sam Flowers followed with a triple down the right-field line to score Lemon to put the Sea Gulls ahead 2-1.
  SALISBURY GAME NOTES VS. MCDANIEL UP NEXT
  • Salisbury looks to continue the streak on Friday, March 10 when they host the Pfeiffer Falcons in a doubleheader.
  • The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Sea Gull Softball Stadium.
