No. 6 Women’s Lacrosse celebrates seniors with 14-4 win over Mary Washington

SALISBURY, Md. – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team sent off its four graduating seniors, Erin Scannell, Riley Hartman, Kellan McAleer and Kaitlyn Hunsinger, with a dominant 14-4 win in its opening Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) matchup with Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls got on the board first with a pair of goals on back-to-back possessions by Meridith Price to put Salisbury up 2-0 with 8:49 left in the opening quarter.
  • Both teams jostled for possession for the rest of the period. Emma Skoglund extended the Sea Gulls' run to 3-0 in the opening moments of the second quarter with a goal at the 12:31 mark.
  • Katie Blair stopped the Salisbury run and notched a goal for Mary Washington with 10:36 left in the half.
  • However, Salisbury went on another 3-0 run with goals from Erin Scannell, Caroline Knight and Leah Vilov that gave the team a 6-1 advantage at halftime.
  • The Eagles stuck first in the third quarter with a goal from Molly Daw to make it 6-2 with nine minutes remaining in the third quarter.
  • The Sea Gulls busted out five unanswered goals over the rest of the third period to push the lead to 11-2 heading into the final quarter.
  • Mary Washington added two more scores, with a Scannell goal sandwiched in between to make it a 12-4 game with 7:24 left to play.
  • Kiersten Hartman rounded out the scoring with two unanswered goals in the final minutes to give the game its final score of 14-4.

  • Kayla Sarazin led the Eagles with a goal and an assist.
  • Four different players tallied a goal.
  • Cailyn Tripp earned the start and tallied 18 saves in the cage.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls will host the fourth-ranked TCNJ Lions for a top-10 battle on Saturday, April 22.
  • The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
