ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Salisbury graduate student
Emma Skoglund became just the 10th Sea Gull to eclipse the 200-point mark in her career as the fifth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team downed the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks, 17-5, on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. Mary's struck first with a goal less than a minute into the game.
- Salisbury responded with two man-up goals from Riley Hartman and Mary Hanzsche to take a 2-1 lead with 7:45 left in the first.
- The Seahawks put two more on the board to take a 3-2 lead heading into the second period.
- A goal from Miranda Mears at the 14:17 mark of the second sparked a 6-0 run for the Sea Gulls in the second quarter to head into halftime with an 8-3 lead.
- Salisbury extended its run out to 10 unanswered goals to start the second half and take a 12-3 lead with 10:01 remaining in the third.
- After some back-and-forth for possession, Hailey Betch tallied a goal for St. Mary's to make it 12-4 at the 3:27 mark of the third quarter.
- Leah Vilov and Mears closed out the high-scoring third with two more goals to put the Sea Gulls up 14-4 heading into the final period.
- Audrey Harrington notched a goal to open the fourth quarter and make it 15-4.
- Bella Dunigan responded for the Seahawks to keep the game within 10, 15-5, with just over nine minutes remaining.
- Salisbury added two more goals in the waning minutes to give the game its final score of 17-5.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
- With her fourth assist in the third quarter, Emma Skoglund became just the 10th player in program history to total 200 career points. Skoglund finished the game with a season-high six points on five assists and a goal.
- Eight different Sea Gulls tallied multiple points.
- Leah Vilov scored a season-high four goals.
- Riley Hartman chipped in two assists and two goals.
- Natalie Held collected seven draw controls and three ground balls while causing three turnovers.
- Kaitlyn Hunsinger earned the win in the cage, tallying three saves and allowing three goals.
- Gabriella Dorsey also saw time in the net and tallied five saves.
ST MARY'S GAME NOTES
- Colin Horton tallied three points with two assists and a goal.
- Bella Dunigan added two goals.
- Maddie Clemmer tallied 11 saves in goal.
UP NEXT
- The Sea Gulls return home to take on the fourth-ranked TCNJ Lions on Saturday, April, 22.
- Salisbury and TCNJ faced each other twice in 2022. The Sea Gulls took a 15-12 win in Ewing on April 23, while the Lions got their revenge with a 14-11 win in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals on May 22.
- The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
