No. 1 Softball sweeps York for 10th straight win

YORK, Pa. – The top-ranked Salisbury University softball team improved to 32-2 on the season and collected its 10th win in a row with a doubleheader sweep on the road over the York Spartans on Sunday. Salisbury picked up a 4-2 win in Game 1 over York before an Emily Stockman grand slam helped Salisbury run-rule York, 8-0, in six innings in Game 2.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • After a scoreless first three innings, Salisbury scored all four of their runs in the top of the fourth inning. A leadoff walk by Maddison Lednum followed by a single by Lauren Meyers led to back-to-back EBI singles by Emily Stockman and Sam Flowers for the first two runs of the game. Madi Lemon cleared the bases with a two-run double to center to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • York cut into the lead in the sixth inning when Amanda Criss hit a two-run single.
  • Savannah Sheats came back to pitch the seventh inning to earn the victory.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES – GAME 1 HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
  • The pitchers dueled through the first five innings of the game. Salisbury stranded runners at third base in the third and fourth innings.
  • Salisbury loaded the bases in the fifth inning. Lindsey Windsor reached on a fielder's choice to score Jillian Dawson to break the deadlock. Two batters later, Lauren Meyers blooped a single on the left-field chalk.
  • After a walk to Maddison Lednum, Emily Stockman cleared the bases with a grand slam to give the Sea Gulls the 6-0 advantage.
  • Salisbury added a pair of runs in the sixth inning. A double by Abby Mace led to an RBI single by Natalie Paoli. A batter later, Windsor sent a ball over the left-field wall to extend the lead to 8-0 and put the run-rule in effect.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES – GAME 2
  • Lauren Meyers paced the offense with three hits in four at-bats. She also drove in a run and scored a run.
  • Emily Stockman hit a grand slam for her fourth home run of the season.
  • Lindsey Windsor launched her fifth home run of the year and picked up her 10th victory of the season in a complete-game shutout. She struck out five and only allowed four hits.

  • Salisbury hosts the Marymount Saints on Wednesday, April 19.
  • The doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. at Sea Gull Softball Stadium.
