No. 1 Softball powers through Marymount

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University softball team rolled to its 12th win in a row with a doubleheader sweep over the Marymount Saints. Salisbury collected a 10-1 win in five innings in Game 1 before an 8-0 victory in six innings in Game 2. The wins improves Salisbury's record to 34-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1
  • Salisbury got out to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning. Lauren Meyers hit an RBI single through the left side to score Abby Mace. Carrie Jacoby followed with a two-run double to center field before a two-run bomb by Emily Stockman pushed Salisbury's lead to 6-0 in the opening frame.
  • After Mace walked and stole second, Natalie Paoli singled her home on an RBI single up the middle.
  • Marymount got a run back in a big way with a Shanyn Burch solo homer in the fourth to chip -into the Salisbury lead to 7-1.
  • Salisbury got the runs back and put the run-rule in effect in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Carrie Jacoby knocked home Maddison Lednum of an RBI single down the right-field line. Stockman brought home two runs on a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 10-1.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES – GAME 1
  • Carrie Jacoby paced the offense with a pair of hits, one of which was a double, and three RBIs.
  • Emily Stockman hit her fifth home run of the season with a two-run homer in the first inning. Stockman totaled three RBIs in the contest.
  • Abby Mace scored twice, recorded a double and a stolen base.
  • Lindsey Windsor (11-0) struck out eight and only allowed one hit and a run to earn the win. Nicole Ortega came in relief and pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
  • After a scoreless two and a half innings, Salisbury finally broke through with five runs in the bottom of the third inning, All the runs came with two outs in the inning.
  • Back-to-back singles by Maddison Lednum and Lauren Meyers put the first runs on the board. After Lednum scored on a wild pitch, Emily Stockman hit an RBI double followed by an RBI single by Sam Flowers to put the Sea Gulls up 5-0.
  • Salisbury finally put more runs across in the sixth inning to invoke the run-rule. Jillian Dawson and Abby Mace scored on an error in left field. Later in the inning, Lauren Meyers sent the fans home happy with a walk-off single to right field to score Natalie Paoli.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES – GAME 2 UP NEXT
  • Salisbury will be back in action next Friday, April 28 against the Catholic Cardinals.
  • The doubleheader is set for a 3 p.m. start in Washington D.C.
