Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 6 Women’s Lacrosse downs No. 8 York, 11-5

YORK, Pa. – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team took down the eight-ranked York (Pa.) Spartans, 11-5, on the road on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury struck first after Emma Skoglund cut around the defense and ripped a shot past the goalkeeper at the 11:21 mark of the first quarter.
  • York answered with a goal from Kiersten Blanchard with just under seven minutes left in the first.
  • The Sea Gulls rounded out the first period with two unanswered goals from Alexandra Parker and Leah Vilov to make it 3-1 heading in the second quarter.
  • Salisbury extended its run to 4-0 with goals from Riley Hartman and Caroline Knight to give the Sea Gulls a 5-1 lead with 9:39 remaining until halftime.
  • Sydney Mentzer stifled the run with a goal for the Spartans just over a minute later.
  • The Sea Gulls tacked on two more goals in the final five minutes of the quarter from Vilov and Erin Scannell to send the teams into halftime with a score of 7-2.
  • Hartman and Scannell each converted free-position attempts to extend Salisbury's lead out to 9-2 with 9:24 left in the third quarter.
  • York added a goal from Zoe Kluegel at the 5:47 mark to round out the scoring in the third to send the teams into the final period with a score of 9-3.
  • Kluegel made it two unanswered goals for the Spartans after she found the back of the net just two minutes into the fourth quarter to make it 9-4.
  • After some back-and-forth with possession, the Sea Gulls added two more goals from Miranda Mears and Vilov to give Salisbury an 11-4 lead with seven minutes to go.
  • Blanchard tacked on a goal at the 5:56 mark for York to close out the scoring for the game and give it its final score of 11-5.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Riley Hartman led the offense with four points on two goals and two assists. She also picked up three draw controls and two ground balls and caused a turnover.
  • Leah Vilov scored three goals and caused two turnovers.
  • Erin Scannell added two goals.
  • Delany Piechowiak and Madeline Davis each caused two turnovers.
  • Kaitlyn Hunsinger tallied 11 saves while allowing just five goals in the net.
YORK GAME NOTES
  • Kiersten Blanchard and Zoe Kluegel each scored two goals.
  • Sydney Mentzer added a goal.
  • Bella Garabo tallied 12 saves while allowing 11 goals in the net.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls return home to take on Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) rival Mary Washington on Saturday, April 15.
  • The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
