No. 4 Women’s Lacrosse rolls through Meredith, 20-3, in NCAA Second Round

Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-3 win over the Meredith Avenging Angels in the NCAA Second Round.

Salisbury moved its record to 15-3 overall and pushed the team to its 21st NCAA Regional appearance.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury wasted no time getting on the board. In the first minute of the game, Riley Hartman worked her away around the goal line and ripped a shot past the keeper.
  • Hartman's goal led to a seven-goal run in the first to allow the Sea Gulls to storm ahead. During the run, Erin Scannell and Emma Skoglund scored a pair of goals while Meredith Price and Leah Vilov put away a goal to help the Sea Gulls take the 7-0 lead after the first quarter.
  • A free-position goal by Vilov extended Salisbury's lead to 8-0 two minutes into the second.
  • Back-to-back goals by Meredith trimmed the Salisbury lead to 8-2.
  • Salisbury responded in a big way with a six-goal run to close out the first half with a 14-2 lead. Skoglund scored three of the six goals.
  • Erin Scannell and Carly Hoffman netted a goal in the third quarter to extend the lead to 16-2.
  • The Sea Gulls continued to add to their lead in the fourth. Audrey Harrington and Kiersten Hartman scored followed by back-to-back tallies by Abby Lantos helped the Sea Gulls reach the 20-goal mark.
  • Reese Walker netted the final goal of the contest for Meredith to cut the lead to 20-3.

  • Tori Witmer, Reese Walker and Jessica Dowdy all scored for the Avenging Angels.
  • Dowdy corralled a game-high seven draw controls.
  • Madeline Horrell made 15 saves in net.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury will head to Washington & Lee and Lexington, Va. for the NCAA Regionals.
  • The Sea Gulls take on the ninth-ranked York Spartans in the NCAA Regional Semifinals on Saturday, May 20.
  • Game time is to be determined.
