SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University softball team scored 10 unanswered runs to begin its 2023 NCAA Tournament run with a 10-2 five-inning victory over the Framingham St. Rams on Thursday in the 2023 Salisbury Regional.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Framingham used three-straight hits to score a pair of runs in the first inning. Brooke Grassia led off the game with a double down the left-field line which eventually led to back-to-back singles by Makayla Rooner and Cam Desrocher, which scored Grassia. Gwen Carpenter followed with a sacrifice fly to score Rooney to push the Rams ahead 2-0 early.
  • Salisbury responded in a big way with a five-run explosion in the bottom half of the first. Carrie Jacoby put Salisbury ahead in a big way with a three-run home run to left, Maddison Lednum followed with another home run to left. After a single by Emily Stockman and a stolen base by McKenna Horner, Natalie Paoli roped a single up the middle to score Horner and push Salisbury ahead 5-2 in the first.
  • Abby Mace began the second inning with an infield single then Lindsey Windsor followed with a stinging double off the left-center wall to extend the lead to 6-2.
  • Aggressive base running paid off for the Sea Gulls as a groundout by Jillian Dawson led to Madi Lemon scoring from third base, sliding under the tag to add to Salisbury's lead, 7-2, in the third.
  • The Sea Gulls put the run-rule in effect in the bottom of the fifth inning. Paoli drove in Lemon with an RBI double to right. Later in the inning, Windsor hit an RBI single to score Paoli. Ellen Stockman hit a walk-off single to left field with the bases loaded to score Dawson to advance Salisbury in the bracket.
