No. 1 Softball sweeps way to Supers after 6-1 win over Williams

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University softball team used a five-run fourth inning to take down the Williams Ephs, 6-1, on Saturday and win its second consecutive regional championship.

With the win, SU improved to 42-3 on the season. It is the fourth time in the current tournament format that the Sea Gulls advanced to the Super Regionals with previous appearances in 2014, 2015 and 2022.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Williams threatened in the opening inning with two runners on and one out. Lindsey Windsor forced Ronni Ramos to a fielder's choice to third then Vicki Trujillo Balderas grounded out to Lauren Meyers at first base to keep the game scoreless.
  • Sidney Miller led off the top of the third inning with a double to center then moved to third on a ground out. However, Windsor forced the next two batters to pop out and strike out to keep Williams off the board.
  • Williams broke the deadlock in the top of the fourth when Bailey Burger-Moore hit a solo home run over the left-field fence.
  • Sadie Leonard ran into control issues in the fourth inning as she walked eight batters in the bottom half of the fourth. Windsor, Meghan Reed, Madi Lemon, Abby Mace and Carrie Jacoby all drew walks with the bases loaded to drive in a run to push Salisbury ahead, 5-1.
  • Emily Stockman gave Salisbury insurance in the bottom half of the fifth after she tripled to left-center field then later scored on a wild pitch.
  • The five-run lead was all that Salisbury needed as Windsor sat down Miller on strikes to close out the Ephs.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury only had two hits in the game. Emily Stockman hit her second career triple in the fifth inning and Carrie Jacoby had a bunt single.
  • Stockman scored twice in the game.
  • Lindsey Windsor (W) scattered six hits and only allowed a run in a complete-game effort. She struck out three for her 14th win of the season. Windsor was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Salisbury Regional following the victory.
  • Stockman, Jacoby and Natalie Paoli also were honored on the All-Tournament Team.
WILLIAMS GAME NOTES
  • Sadie Leonard struck out 10 Sea Gulls but walked nine.
  • Bailey Burger-Moore hit her second home run of the season.
