Football slotted 25th in D3football.com Preseason Poll

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University football team will enter the 2023 season as the 25th-ranked team in the country, according to the results of the D3football.com Preseason Top 25 poll.

Salisbury enters the 2023 season with four consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) crowns with three NJAC Championships in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and an NJAC South Division title in the short Spring 2021 season. The Sea Gulls have made three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament with the most recent run in 2022 with a 9-2 overall record and a perfect 6-0 record in the NJAC.

The defending national champions, North Central, will enter the season at the top of the polls with 22 of 25 first-place votes. Mount Union was slotted second with the final three first-place votes. Mary Hardin-Baylor, Trinity (Texas) and Wartburg rounded out the top-five.

Under the direction of head coach Sherman Wood, who is entering his 25th season, the Sea Gulls return All-American junior defensive back Caleb Brubaker. Brubaker along with senior superback Joey Bildstein and junior offensive lineman Tony Mason will come back to the fold in 2023 as well as seven of the league-high 13 All-NJAC selections from a season ago.

Salisbury was the only NJAC school to be ranked in the D3football.com Preseason Top 25

Salisbury will open the 2023 season on the road on Saturday, Sept. 2 against the Washington & Lee Generals. The home schedule opens with a Top 25 matchup on Saturday, Sept. 16 against in-state rival and 18th-ranked Johns Hopkins.
