Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball rolls Washington (Md.), 3-0

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball team made quick work of Washington (Md.), sweeping the Shorewomen 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-19) on Tuesday night at Maggs Physical Activities Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls stormed out of the gate with nine of the first 10 points, with Gwen Eustace and Jackie Mitchell teaming up for a block that built the SU lead to 9-1.
  • The Shorewomen battled back to get within 14-9, but Salisbury netted seven of the next eight to go up 21-10 and soon closed out the first set, 25-13, on a kill from Emma Quandt.
  • Salisbury got off to another hot start in the second set, with Bella Rubino notching back-to-back kills to put the Sea Gulls in control 7-1.
  • WC got as close as 12-7 before SU rattled off four in a row to go back up 16-7, eventually cruising to a 25-15 second-set victory with Kiley McTaggart delivering the clinching kill.
  • The Sea Gulls lunged ahead in the third set with runs of four, three and three points to go up 13-7 before Washington clawed back to within 22-17.
  • Rubino broke SU out of the doldrums with a kill, followed by a Eustace-Quandt block to set up match point. The Shorewomen snagged two more points before Eustace and Mitchell stuffed one final shot to put the third set in the books, 25-19.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Bella Rubino made the most of her first career start, landing 11 kills on an impressive .450 hitting percentage. Rubino also dug out four attacks.
  • Gwen Eustace landed seven kills without an error, good for a .700 hitting percentage. Eustace also notched four blocks (one solo).
  • Jackie Mitchell delivered five kills, while Delaney Madsen and Kiley McTaggart added four apiece.
  • Brooke Young led the Sea Gulls with 18 assists and dealt four service aces.
  • Julie Alteri served up 12 assists and landed four kills.
  • Kayla Pedersen started as libero and recorded a team-high nine digs, plus five assists. Mitchell and Natalie Uibel each dug out five attacks.
  • The Sea Gulls registered a .349 hitting percentage with 40 kills as a team. SU also dealt 10 aces to Washington's four.
WASHINGTON GAME NOTES
  • Chelsea Elliott notched six kills without an error (.600), sharing the Shorewoman kill lead with Giselle Kleinbussink.
  • Raegan Moran served up 11 assists with five digs, while Allison McKechnie recorded eight assists and five kills.
  • Victoria Kile dug out a team-high eight attacks.
  • The Shorewomen were held to a .107 hitting percentage as a team.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls will host a tri-match on Saturday, facing William Smith at 11 a.m. and Gettysburg at 3 p.m. Those two teams will play a neutral match against each other at 1 p.m.
  • Saturday will serve as the volleyball team's Relay for Life games to celebrate, remember and honor those touched by cancer. A table will be available at Maggs PAC for those who wish to make a donation.
