Two records fall in Women’s Swimming’s 199-59 win over St. Mary’s (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – In the squad's return to the pool after the holiday break, the Salisbury University women's swim team cruised to a 199-59 win over the St. Mary's Seahawks on Sunday.

HOW It HAPPENED

Delaney Gibbons and Lily Griffin set new program records in the 50 back and 200 fly respectively. Gibbons set a new mark in the 50-yard back with a first-place time of 28.03 seconds, besting the previous record by .02 seconds set by teammate Emma Schlutt earlier in the season. Griffin broke her record by over two and a half seconds in the 200-yard fly when she touched the wall first in 2:09.10,
The team dominated the podium in each of the backstroke and butterfly events. Gibbons, Grace Hudalla (29.28), Ashley Marcum (32.73) and Andrea Gerber (33.64) went 1-2-3-4 in the 50 back. Olivia Polucha (2:11.89), Sadie Hebert (2:17.85) and Hudalla (2:18.96) swept the medals in the 200 back.
Griffin also added a gold in the 50 fly with a time of 26.80 seconds. Leah Gude (27.31), Hebert (27.38) and Sierra Wakefield (28.05) finished behind Griffin in the 50 fly in that order. Polucha also bested Griffin's old record in the 200 fly with her second-place time of 2:09.82.
Maddie Powell and Bryn Krasauskis went 1-2 in the 200 free with times of 2:00.56 and 2:04.15 respectively. Powell (4:43.96) and Krasauskis (4:54.95) along with Olivia Totaro (4:51.53) swept the podium in the 400 IM.
Gude (18:22.90), Peyton O'Brien (19:01.69) and Nicole Rickabaugh (19:11.17) placed 1-2-3 in the 1,650 free.
Salisbury swept the relays with wins with the team placing in all three spots in the 400 medley and 200 free.

UP NEXT

Salisbury will continue in-state with a double dual against Division I UMBC and Division II Frostburg St. on Saturday, Jan. 20.
The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. at UMBC.
