Men’s Basketball suffers road setback against Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team saw its two-game win streak snapped in a road battle against the Cabrini University Cavaliers, dropping an 85-71 decision on Wednesday evening inside Nerney Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls laid claim to the first five points of Wednesday's affair. Jordan Oates converted a three-point play and Brendan Davis followed with a driving finish to build the early advantage.
  • Cabrini responded with a four-point swing to bring the contest within one before five straight possessions ended in points for either team. With nearly five minutes played, Salisbury held an 11-10 advantage.
  • Each side clamped down over the next three and a half minutes as just six total points were scored in the span. SU carved out a 15-12 lead with just under 12 minutes left in the period.
  • Reed Rebstock provided the next basket nearly two minutes later, a three-pointer that extended the gap to five and prompted a Cavalier timeout around the midway point of the half.
  • The hosts outscored Salisbury 10-6 across the next three minutes, bringing the margin down to two, 24-22. A 4-1 maroon and gold run was quickly quelled by an 11-5 Cavalier swing, putting Cabrini in front by one at halftime, 34-33.
  • Each offense was humming to start the second half. The teams combined for 24 total points in the first five minutes of the period, with SU narrowly outscoring the Cavaliers 13-11.
  • Salisbury was the first to string multiple scores together nearly six minutes removed from intermission when Sidney Lebonzo connected on a turnaround jumper to extend the lead to three, 48-45. Cabrini responded with a 9-4 run, establishing a 51-50 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining.
  • Following a Calvin Thomas layup, the Cavaliers scored 10 of the next 15 to grow their lead, 61-57. A 9-3 Cabrini run pushed the margin to double-digits, 70-60, with just under five minutes left.
  • The foul game failed to save Salisbury late as Cabrini outscored the Sea Gulls 15-11 down the stretch to secure the 85-71 final.
