Women’s Swimming breaks program record with win over Catholic

Washington, D.C. – The Salisbury University women's swimming team defeated the Catholic University Cardinals, 188-74, Saturday afternoon to establish a new program record for dual meet wins in a season with their ninth.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The meet opened up with the Salisbury University women topping the podium in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Emma Schlutt, Samantha Watson, Sadie Hebert, and Alexa Hilty finished the event with a time of 1:52.98.
  • The Sea Gulls earned a 1-2 finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle as Olivia Totaro finished the event in 10:53.38 with Leah Gude coming in second with a time of 11:02.83.
  • Salisbury swept the podium in the 100-yard backstroke, including a tight finish for first between teammates. Schlutt took the top step of the podium with a time of 1:01.00 while Delaney Gibbons was right behind her with a 1:01.91. Just behind them in third was Grace Hudalla who finished with a time of 1:02.24.
  • The Sea Gulls took the entire podium in the 200-yard butterfly as well. Sierra Wakefield finished first in 2:16.15, Bryn Krasauskis took second with a time of 2:17.07, and Hebert rounded out the podium with a 2:20.52.
  • The day of sweeps continued for Salisbury as Hilty took home the win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.31. Just four-tenths of a second behind her was Peyton O'Brien and finishing third with a time of 57.46 was Gibbons.
  • Salisbury picked up their final sweep of the podium in the 100-yard butterfly as Lily Griffin took home the top spot with a 59.08, Hebert finished second with a 1:01.93, and Wakefield completed the podium with her time of 1:02.45.
  • In the final event of the meet, the Sea Gulls earned the win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Olivia Polucha, Schlutt, Griffin, and Hilty completed the event with a time of 3:44.69.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 15, for the first day of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships.
  • The NJAC Championships will take place from Feb. 15 through Feb. 18 at the University of Maryland Natatorium in College Park, Md.
