ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team used another strong showing from
Jordan Oates to narrowly escape its road battle with the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks, earning a 62-60 victory on Wednesday evening at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The hosts got the better of the Sea Gulls early, beginning the contest with a 6-0 run spanning the first three minutes. Brendan Davis found nylon on a midrange jumper to kickstart a fiery 12-2 run spanning nearly five minutes that put SU in front, 12-8.
- St. Mary's responded with a 7-2 run, inching back in front by a 15-14 score. Salisbury took eight of the next 10 points to retake and extend the lead with just under five minutes remaining in the period, 22-17.
- The foes traded 2-of-2 trips to the stripe and Aidan Camper powered through two defenders to lay one in with five seconds left in the half, but the Seahawks beat the buzzer from beyond the arc to set the halftime score at 31-27.
- Salisbury struck fast after the break, netting six straight to begin the second half and extend the lead to 10, 37-27. The Seahawks parried with an 8-3 swing that yanked the matchup back within five, 40-35.
- Each side tallied six points across the next two minutes before an 8-0 Seahawk run tied the contest at 46 with just over 10 minutes remaining. A 6-2 Salisbury streak capped by a layup from Jordan Oates put the Sea Gulls in front by four, 52-48.
- With just over seven minutes to play, Oates ignited for Salisbury. He scored 11 points and corralled four rebounds in the final 7:18 of the contest, nearly outscoring St. Mary's on his own in that stretch, to help lift Salisbury to a 62-60 victory over the Seahawks.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
- Jordan Oates logged his eighth double-double of the season, tying his career-high with 25 points while hauling in 18 rebounds, his seventh double-digit rebounding effort in his last eight games, and earning three blocks.
- After his performance on Wednesday, Oates moves to eighth in program history with 716 career rebounds, surpassing Gordon Jeter '17.
- Reed Rebstock finished with nine points and five rebounds in the victory.
- Cameron Heard dropped six points and chased down six boards.
- Brendan Davis and Kaiden Mines each added six points. Davis also nabbed a pair of steals on the evening.
- The Sea Gulls shot 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the floor, making two threes and shooting 69.2 percent (18-of-26) from the free-throw line. Salisbury also outrebounded the Seahawks 44-26 in the victory.
ST. MARY'S GAME NOTES
- Daryn Alexander led the Seahawks with 23 points, adding seven rebounds and a pair of assists.
- Micah Henry tallied 14 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
- The Seahawks shot 41.5 percent (22-of-53) from the field, 26.9 percent (7-of-26) from three-point range, and 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the charity stripe.

- The Sea Gulls return home on Saturday, Jan. 6 to host the inaugural Fight for Ferguson game against the Penn State Schuylkill Nittany Lions.
- The evening will feature free admission, a pregame ceremony honoring Jack Ferguson's memory, the naming of a postgame MVP, and a reception held following the game's conclusion.
- Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Maggs Physical Activities Center.
