Football Homecoming Preview | Rowan | Week 8

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 6 Salisbury University football team remains undefeated with a 6-0 record. The Sea Gulls have started NJAC play 3-0 with their most recent 44-8 win over Montclair State. They now host Rowan University for another NJAC match-up on Oct. 26th with kickoff set for 1 p.m. inside Sea Gull Stadium.

Game Notes

The Series 
This is the 10th time the Sea Gulls and Profs have faced off in football. Salisbury is 7-2 all-time against Rowan and has won the previous six meetings. 
 
The Revenge Tour 
The Sea Gulls are off to a 6-0 start and a 3-0 start in NJAC action. They have two ranked wins to begin the season and won three games in a row to opponents they lost to last season. After the 48-26 season opening win over Washington & Lee, the Sea Gulls hosted No. 18 Muhlenberg and hung 59 points outscoring the Mules 24-0 to close the game. In the next ranked win at No. 8 Johns Hopkins, SU shut out the Blue Jays 31-0 in the second half on the way to a 41-13 victory. In their last game of the revenge tour, they took down rival Christopher Newport University 42-38 in a game that had 11 lead changes.
 
The Captains
Senior Jaden Davis, graduate student Ben Spiess, junior Jimmy Celentano and senior Tony Mason were announced as team captains heading into the Rowan week.
 
The Class of the NJAC 
Since joining the NJAC in 2015, Salisbury has won 62 games in the conference. The 62 wins stand as the most wins among active teams in the conference. Since joining the NJAC in 2015, Salisbury has won five conference championships which is the most in the eight-year span.
 
Among the Greats 
Salisbury head coach Sherman Wood ranks in the top-15 of active coaches in wins, regardless of NCAA Division. Coach Wood totaled 206 victories as head coach with stints at Bowie State and SU. Wood has more career wins than other notable coaches with 20 years or more of experience than Rich Rodriguez of Jacksonville St. and Terry Bowden of Louisiana-Monroe.
 
Both Sides of the Ball 
The SU defense has created 11 turnovers in six games while the offense has been 57 percent on third downs while also scoring points 28 times out of 32 tries in the red zone.
 
Schrader named to D3football.com Team of the Week 
After gaining his first NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors yesterday, Nero Schrader was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for special teams. Schrader (Gr. – Vienna, Va.) made two key special teams plays in the Sea Gulls' dominant 44-8 win over Montclair State on Saturday. He forced a fumble on a kickoff in the first quarter, leading directly to an SU field goal. Then on the first Red Hawk punt of the third quarter, he broke through the line for a block to set up a Salisbury touchdown on the very next play. Schrader also recorded two tackles (one solo) on the day. 
 
Climbing the Rankings Football – 6th | D3football.com Poll, Week 7 (Oct. 20) 
Salisbury moved up three slots from ninth to sixth with 472 points, leapfrogging No. 7 Susquehanna (470). No. 6 matches the highest ever ranking for SU in the D3football.com Top 25 (Week 11, 2019). North Central (Ill.), Cortland, St. John's, Mount Union, and HardinSimmons remained unchanged as the top five. In the latest NPI rankings the Sea Gulls sit second. 
 
Homecoming Flock Party

All students, faculty, staff, family, and alumni are invited to the Alumni Homecoming and Family Weekend Flock Party and Carnival on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wayne Street between Bateman and Power Streets.
 
The Salisbury University Police have issued a parking advisory for the weekend. No parking will be allowed on Wayne Street between Bateman and Power Streets on Saturday until approximately 5 p.m. Individuals are asked to remove all vehicles from that location no later than 12 p.m. on Friday. During the Flock Party, parking will be available in the Wayne Street Garage through the Bateman Street entrance, Wayne Street Parking Lot, and Avery Street Parking Lot. Once the event has concluded and the road is reopened, parking on Wayne Street may resume. 
 
Scouting Rowan  
The Profs are coming off a 24-7 loss at CNU, an opponent the Sea Gulls defeated 42-24 a few weeks ago inside Sea Gull Stadium. The week before they started NJAC play 1-0 with a 36-22 win over TCNJ at home.
 
Another common opponent between these two teams so far this sea- son is Johns Hopkins. The Profs fell 20-13 at Johns Hopkins while Salisbury traveled and came back with a 41-13 victory.
 
Rowan has created turnovers defensively with 18 total and 11 of those being interceptions. On average they give up 27 points per game while only scoring 23. The offense sits at 330 yards per game while going 40 percent on third downs.
