Men’s Basketball staves off St. Mary’s (Md.) in home opener

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team opened the 2024-25 home slate with a victory over St. Mary's (Md.), earning a 72-66 win over the Seahawks in Maggs Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.

Neither side managed a lead of more than four through the first 10 minutes, with the Sea Gulls (2-1) trailing 16-15 just beyond the opening half's midway point. Salisbury responded to the deficit with a 10-0 run spanning over three minutes, building a 25-16 advantage with six and a half minutes to play in the opening period.

The Sea Gulls (2-1) held serve with their guests to close the frame, toting a 32-26 lead into the locker room. The Seahawks brought the lead down to two on multiple occasions in the second half, but the Sea Gulls defended their nest to escape with the 72-66 victory.
