BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team saw its four-game win streak snapped on Tuesday evening, dropping a 73-66 decision in a road bout against the Bryn Athyn College Lions.
The Sea Gulls (7-3) rolled out a 9-0 run to begin the evening's affairs led by four points from
Daniel Oyediran and three from
Kedrick Frink in the first three minutes. Bryn Athyn responded with an 8-2 run, slimming the advantage to 11-8 with just over 13 minutes to play in the first period.
The Lions (4-6) fell victim to the same run as Salisbury netted eight of the next 10 points across a three-minute swing, ballooning the lead to nine at 19-10. Continuing the first-half trend, Salisbury endured an 18-4 Lion swing that gave the hosts a 28-23 lead with under five minutes on the first-half clock.
Salisbury outpaced the Lions across the final minutes, 7-4, to trail by two at the break, 32-30. Oyediran led the Sea Gulls with 11 points at the break.
Jordan Oates netted five in the first three minutes of the second half to drive a 7-2 Sea Gull stretch and build a 37-34 lead. Bryn Athyn battled back, scoring six in the next two minutes before ending a near-three-minute scoring drought to tie the contest at 42.
Salisbury caught fire with a 10-1 rally, punctuated by an Oyediran slam, to take a 52-43 advantage and the team's largest lead of the night. The Lions answered with seven consecutive points to climb within two points with eight minutes to go, 52-50.
A scoreless two and a half minutes followed, with a pair of Lion free throws tying the contest with 5:48 left in the matchup. After splitting the next 10 points even with SU, the Lions netted nine of 12 to lead by six in the final minutes, 66-60.
Oates scored six points in the final 120 seconds, but the Lions made critical free throws late to snap Salisbury's win streak and earn the 73-66 win.
GAME NOTES
- Daniel Oyediran posted his best outing so far as a Sea Gull, dropping a game-high 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting to tie his career-high across 35 minutes of action. His total stands in a tie for second among single-game efforts this season, matching a 24-point effort from Oates on Dec. 7th at Gettysburg, while also matching the career figure he set at Hartwick against SUNY Morrisville on Jan. 2nd, 2024.
- Jordan Oates logged his seventh double-double of the season, tallying 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting with 11 rebounds while denying a pair of Lion tries.
- Kedrick Frink reached the double-digit threshold for the fifth straight game, dropping 13 points while adding six rebounds and a game-high six assists.
- The Sea Gulls shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the floor, making three attempts from beyond the arc and shooting 53.8 percent from the free throw line.
The Sea Gulls return home as part of a basketball doubleheader on Saturday, Dec. 14th, hosting the Widener University Pride for the team's Camper Appreciation Day at 1 p.m. before the women's squad battles Penn State Harrisburg at 3 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase
