Men’s Tennis opens slate with Stevens round robin

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team opened up its 2024 slate with a round-robin tournament against the Stevens Ducks on Saturday at the SU Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury won seven of the eight doubles matches, while the Sea Gulls and Ducks matched up evenly in singles play with each set of players winning nine scrapes. Team records are not impacted in a round-robin tournament.
  • Gianluca Beaujon won all four of his matches during the day, outlasting both of his singles opponents in three sets teaming up with Jhayden Pappas to earn two doubles victories.
  • Christopher Catan was also a four-time victor on the day. In his first singles match, he sweated out a 13-11 result in the third set to beat Stevens' Johnny Haase before winning his second singles tilt in straight sets. Catan and Russell Willenborg then went undefeated as a doubles pair.
  • The doubles team of Aron Bursztyn and Mitchell Desman also won a pair of matches, both by 8-4 margins.
  • Caleb Brightman, Bursztyn, Desman, Pappas, and Willenborg each won a singles match. Brightman and Gurv Suri also took one of their two doubles fixtures.
  • Competition began at the Outdoor Tennis Center before mid-afternoon rain forced play indoors.

UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls and Ducks will play nine more singles matches against each other on the final day of their round robin on Sunday morning.
  • First serve from the SU Indoor Tennis Center is scheduled for 8 a.m.
