Women’s Tennis opens season with 9-0 sweep of Catholic

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team made it look easy in its first match of the season, earning a 9-0 sweep of the Catholic Cardinals on Saturday afternoon at the SU Indoor Tennis Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls opened the day with wins in all three doubles matches. First doubles Gibelle Beaujon and Olivia Hall teamed up to take down the Cardinals' Mairead O'Hara and Ava Niggemeier 8-2, while second doubles Lily Muir and Sarah Cooper, as well as third doubles Evelyn Whiteside and Hannah Carter, each won their tilts by 8-6 margins.
  • Beaujon and Hall each dropped just one game on the way to convincing wins in their singles matches. Beaujon took first singles over Jane Krukiel (6-1, 6-0), while Hall handled Meaghan Laniewski in second singles (6-0, 6-1).
  • Cooper capped the first trio of singles by beating Paige Brightwell (6-1, 6-2).
  • Muir, Carter, and Whiteside emerged victorious in fourth, fifth, and sixth singles, respectively.

  • The Sea Gulls return to action against Shenandoah to cap their opening weekend on Sunday.
  • First serve from the SU Indoor Tennis Center is set for 11 a.m.
