Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball season ends against No. 4 CNU in C2C semis

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The fourth-seeded Salisbury University women's basketball team saw its season come to an end at the hands of the fourth-ranked and top-seeded Christopher Newport Captains, 80-58, in the semifinals of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Tournament on Friday evening at the Freeman Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After giving up the game's first four points, buckets from Nicole Miller and Hailey Ader brought the Sea Gulls even, 4-4, at the 7:35 mark of the first quarter.
  • From there the Captains seized control, going on a 7-0 run over the next four minutes. Miller cut the deficit to 11-6 with two free throws, but CNU scored eight of the final 10 points of the period to surge ahead 19-8.
  • Miller knocked down back-to-back treys to open the second quarter and make it 19-14. Hannah Kaloi answered for the Captains with a three-point play, but a Jen Juhring jumper kept SU within two possessions at 22-16 a minute into the period.
  • CNU responded with an 8-2 run to go up 30-18. Salisbury got as close as seven later in the period, but the Captains went on a six-point surge to rebuild the lead to 13. A triple from Tatiana Virata moved the Sea Gulls back within 42-32 at the break.
  • The teams boxed evenly through the first six minutes of the third quarter. Ader's jay at the 4:22 mark kept SU within 50-39.
  • The Captains then landed a trio of three-pointers, including a pair from McKenna Snively, to close out the third with a 20-piont lead, 59-39.
  • CNU built the margin as high as 26 at 70-44 halfway through the fourth quarter, but the Sea Gulls fought to keep from falling further behind. Ader scored four points on two perfect trips to the free throw line in the final stretch of the game, and two foul shots from Cora Shafer gave the game its final 80-58 margin.
