Men’s Basketball toppled by Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team fell to Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) rival Mary Washington on Wednesday evening by way of a 64-57 decision at the William M. Anderson Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Reed Rebstock got the scoring started for the Sea Gulls, finding the target on a mid-range jumper to start an 8-2 Salisbury run in the first four minutes. After six consecutive Mary Washington points, Rebstock kicked to Jordan Oates for a three-ball that broke up the run, setting the score at 11-8.
  • The Eagles showed their talons over the next handful of minutes, netting nine in a row to take a 17-11 advantage with just over 11 minutes to play in the half.
  • Nearly two scoreless minutes later, the sides traded scores before SU launched into an 11-2 run that put the maroon and gold in the driver's seat, leading 27-23 with just under five minutes left in the half.
  • UMW outscored the Sea Gulls 9-5 in the final minutes of the period to lead 32-31 midway through the affair.
  • The hosts scored the first five points of the second stanza, only interrupted by a pair of Brendan Davis free throws before rebutting with a jumper to extend the lead, 39-33, in just over 90 seconds.
  • Oates tacked on four points to help Salisbury outscore the Eagles 6-5 over the next two and a half minutes before both scoring outfits fell silent. Over two minutes later, a UMW layup lit the fuse on a 7-2 run, pushing the UMW lead to double digits, 51-41.
  • Patrick Wynne gave the Sea Gulls a spark, scoring four of six straight points for Salisbury before five were dropped by UMW on the other end. Wynne struck again after the short rally to cut into the deficit, 56-49, with just under seven minutes left.
  • Kaiden Mines and Leroy Hamilton found the basket late, but the Sea Gulls failed to gain ground, falling to the Eagles by a 64-57 final.
