Men’s Tennis sweeps York (Pa.); off to best start in seven years

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team won its seventh straight dual match to open the season, taking an easy 9-0 win over the York (Pa.) Spartans on Sunday afternoon at the SU Outdoor Tennis Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls made quick work of doubles by winning the three matches by a combined 24-6 margin. Mitchell Desman and Aron Bursztyn made quick work of third doubles, 8-1, while Gianluca Beaujon and Jhayden Pappas (8-2) easily handled first doubles, and Caleb Brightman and Gurv Suri (8-3) took second doubles.
  • Desman didn't lose a game on the way to a 6-0, 6-0 drubbing in fifth singles, while Russell Willenborg was nearly perfect (6-0, 6-1) in fourth singles.
  • Playing top singles for the first time in the campaign, Suri earned an impressive 6-2, 6-0 win over Ben Dorsey. Bursztyn soon after finished up a 6-3, 6-1 triumph in second singles.
  • Christopher Catan won third singles 6-1, 6-4, and a 7-5, 6-4 victory for Tim Holt in sixth singles made it six straight-set singles decisions for SU on the day.
  • Salisbury's 7-0 start extends its longest season-opening winning streak since taking nine in a row to begin the 2017 slate.

  • The Sea Gulls look to make it eight in a row against 37th-ranked Mary Washington on Thursday at home. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
