Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Vilov’s six-goal day leads No. 7 Women’s Lacrosse past No. 16 Roanoke, 16-4

SALISBURY, Md. – The seventh-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team brushed off its second ranked foe in four days on Saturday afternoon, using a career effort from Leah Vilov and a strong defensive showing to knock off the 16th-ranked Roanoke College Maroons at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Defense reigned in the first quarter as just two goals were scored in the period, both by Salisbury. Mary Hanzsche started the scoring, wrapping around from the X and faking high before shooting low for the finish just 47 seconds into the contest.
  • After nearly nine scoreless minutes, Erin Scannell dumped a feed to Vilov, who snuck the shot past the Roanoke keeper to give Salisbury a 2-0 lead that held through the rest of the quarter.
  • Vilov struck again to begin the second frame, powering through a pair of Maroons to extend the lead just 35 seconds in. Roanoke netted their first goal of the day just over three minutes later before the Sea Gulls unleashed three goals in 75 seconds to widen the gap.
  • Scannell began the rally, taking two steps inside the 8-meter and firing top-shelf. Salisbury claimed the next draw control and pounced as Hanzsche linked with Vilov for her third goal. She logged her fourth 32 seconds later as Camryn Pepper eyed her on a cut from the top and fed the finish, giving SU a 6-1 lead with just under seven minutes left in the half.
  • The Sea Gulls added two more before intermission, starting with an unassisted strike from Julianna Ott. Less than a minute later, Vilov blistered a free-position goal to send SU to the locker room ahead 8-1.
  • The sides traded goals to begin the third quarter, with the Maroons answering goals from Alexandra Parker (assisted by Pepper) and Pepper across the first seven minutes.
  • Salisbury closed the contest on a 6-1 run, the first goal coming from Miranda Mears (assisted by Pepper). Meridith Price sent a dime from Hanzsche into the webbing 90 seconds later, and Vilov gathered her sixth strike to wrap the third quarter and start the running clock, 13-3.
  • Lauren Hackett needed just 40 seconds in the fourth to notch her first goal of the season, extending the lead to 11. Hackett aided Audrey Harrington's 10th career score before Harrington earned the assist on an Abby Lantos strike.
  • Roanoke added their final goal of the game with just 16 seconds left, securing the 16-4 final score.
