No. 4 Women’s Lacrosse overwhelms No. 22 Chicago, 19-11

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team tallied its fourth ranked victory of the season on Saturday evening, handing the University of Chicago Maroons a 19-11 decision at Carlini Field on the campus of the Catholic University of America.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maroons marked the first tally, needing just under four minutes to take a 1-0 lead. Salisbury used solo strikes from Grace Doyle and Caroline Knight to take a 2-1 advantage through the opening seven minutes.
  • Chicago logged a man-up goal to restore the tie before Lauren Hackett fired a pair of finishes and Mary Hanzsche linked with Leah Vilov to set the score at 5-2 through 15 minutes.
  • Camryn Pepper added SU's sixth score in the first 90 seconds of the second quarter, widening the margin to four. Erin Scannell saw her first goal of the day sandwiched by a pair of Maroon makes to slim the deficit, 7-4.
  • Salisbury closed the half on a 3-0 run beginning with Alexandra Parker's unassisted strike with three and a half minutes left. Hanzsche aided Parker on her second goal just over a minute later, and Abby Lantos buried a free-position look to set the halftime score at 10-4.
  • The Maroons scored first in the second half before Doyle and Scannell scored within 30 seconds to each other to bolster the lead to 12-5 with 7:32 left in the third quarter.
  • The Sea Gulls parried Chicago's sixth goal with a three-goal blitz of their own, using goals from Julianna Ott, Vilov, and Hackett to push the lead to nine with just under 17 minutes to go. The Maroons scored a pair of goals in the final minute to paint a 15-8 picture with 45 minutes played.
  • Meredith Price led a blitz of the Maroons to begin the final quarter, netting a pair of solo goals while Scannell aided Vilov's third finish to establish an 18-9 lead with just under nine and a half minutes remaining.
  • Chicago added a pair of goals later in the fourth, but Doyle tacked on her third score to establish the 19-11 final.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Grace Doyle, Lauren Hackett, and Leah Vilov each posted hat tricks in the win.
  • Erin Scannell tallied three points on two goals and one assist.
  • Meridith Price scored a pair of goals while adding four draw controls, three caused turnovers, and two ground balls.
  • Alexandra Parker also netted a pair of finishes on the evening.
  • Natalie Held picked up a team-high three ground balls while matching Price's four draw controls. She also caused a pair of Maroon errors.
  • Abby Fleishell added two ground balls and two forced errors in the matchup.
  • Kaitlyn Hunsinger improved to 7-2 this season and 21-4 in her career, making five saves across the first 30 minutes. Gabriella Dorsey made seven saves in the final 30 minutes in goal.
CHICAGO GAME NOTES
  • Skylar Lienhardt led the Maroon attack, posting a hat trick and three ground balls in the win.
  • Lulu Hardy finished with three points on two goals and an assist, while Grace Hopkins and Olivia Escoffery each scored twice.
  • Kali Konstantinakos and Teaghan Casey combined for six ground balls and four caused turnovers defensively.
  • Evelina Swigart finished with a game-high seven draw controls.
  • Rachel Keefe made 13 saves across the full 60 minutes in a losing effort.

  • The Sea Gulls conclude their three-game stint away from the nest on Wednesday, March 27, traveling to Mechanicsburg, Pa. to face the Messiah University Falcons.
  • The contest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
