Brown tops 400 career points as No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse tops Catholic, 20-6

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team soared out of the nation's capital with a 20-6 victory over the Catholic University of America Cardinals on Wednesday evening at Carlini Field. Jude Brown recorded his 400th career point in the second quarter of the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls and Cardinals circled one another in the opening minutes with the game secured in a scoreless draw for the first seven minutes of the contest. Charlie White broke the early stalemate, firing an unassisted goal to give Salisbury a 1-0 lead.
  • Less than 50 seconds later, Jude Brown fed Ty Keaton his seventh goal of the campaign to add to the lead, 2-0. Keaton struck again in the final minutes of the frame, burying a transition feed from John DeFazio to put Salisbury ahead by three.
  • Josh Sanchez supplied Chris Wong's first goal of the campaign less than 50 seconds later, providing the Sea Gulls with a 4-0 advantage through 15 minutes.
  • Keaton completed a first-half hat trick less than two minutes into the period, burying an assist from Brown to add to the margin before Brown connected on a faceoff feed from Mackenzie Moreland to push the lead to six early in the second frame.
  • The Sea Gulls added three more over the ensuing five minutes, beginning when White linked with Riley Strub to widen the gap to seven. Strub assisted White's second goal just over a minute later before Brice Bromwell buried his 19th of the campaign to put SU ahead 9-0 with eight minutes to go in the half.
  • Brown joined elite company with just over three minutes remaining in the second quarter, dishing a man-up helper to Keaton for his 400th career point and pushing the margin to 10.
  • Luke Nestor and Jack Dowd each secured solo finishes over the final three minutes, establishing a 12-0 advantage for the maroon and gold at intermission.
  • Brown surpassed the 400-point mark in the third quarter's opening minutes, joining forces with Keaton once more to balloon the lead to 13. The Cardinals notched their first two goals of the night before the dynamic duo of Brown and Keaton struck a fifth time for a 14-2 SU lead.
  • Brown notched a solo strike with just under seven minutes left in the third stanza, returning the Salisbury lead to 13. Lucas Ingley joined the scoring column with an unassisted strike and Wong fed Strub his 23rd goal of the campaign in response to a Cardinal goal, sending the affair to the final 15 minutes with a 17-4 score.
  • Bromwell linked with Strub just over 90 seconds into the fourth, widening the gap to 18-4. Blake Epstein fed Brayden Velasquez his first score of 2024 before Kellen Smaw collected his second career goal just 31 seconds later, 20-4.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Jude Brown logged a game-high seven points on two goals and five assists. Brown finished the day with 403 career points including 151 in his time with Salisbury.
  • Ty Keaton exploded for a career-high six goals, putting eight of his nine shots on target while posting pairs of ground balls and caused turnovers.
  • Riley Strub posted a hat trick in the victory, adding an assist and causing one Cardinal miscue.
  • Charlie White finished with three points on two goals and a feed.
  • Seven other Sea Gulls scored in the win, while six other Sea Gulls logged an assist.
  • Mackenzie Moreland went 16-for-27 (.592) on faceoffs with a game-high 12 ground balls while adding his second career assist and causing one error.
  • Reagan McNemar picked up five ground balls and forced a pair of Cardinal turnovers.
  • Nicholas Ransom improved to 29-0 in his collegiate career as a starter, turning away five shots across the opening 32:08 of action. Z.J. Shahin logged 13:20 in relief, while Matty Back made a pair of saves across 8:36 and Matt Sentowski closed the last 5:56 of the contest.
  • Salisbury's win over Catholic extends the team's win streak to 29 games, dating back to Feb. 25, 2023. Salisbury holds an 11-0 record against the Cardinals since 2000.
CATHOLIC GAME NOTES
  • Victor Rosado led the Cardinal offense with five points on three goals and two assists.
  • Three other Cardinals scored in the loss.
  • Ryan Macksoud went 11-for-23 on faceoffs and picked up seven ground balls. Jack Suchanek won two of his seven attempts in relief.
  • Mason Russo secured four ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
  • Mike Tayloe caused a team-high three miscues while adding two ground balls.
  • Tyler Merchant made 20 saves across the full 60 minutes, but was ultimately tagged with the loss.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls travel to Union, N.J., beginning Coastal Lacrosse Conference (CLC) play with a weekend bout against the Kean University Cougars.
  • Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Alumni Stadium.
