Men’s Tennis rolls through St. Mary’s (Md.), 9-0

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team won its 10th match out of 12 to open the season, sweeping the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the SU Indoor & Outdoor Tennis Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams played their singles matches before doubles, starting outdoors before eventually moving indoors due to rain.
  • Five Sea Gulls earned straight-sets victories in singles. Gurv Suri posted the best mark of the bunch, taking third singles by a perfect 6-0, 6-0 margin.
  • Caleb Brightman (6-0, 6-1), Aron Bursztyn (6-0, 6-1), and Mitchell Desman (6-0, 6-1) only dropped one game in second, fifth, and sixth singles, respectively. Russell Willenborg (6-1, 6-2) faced little resistance in fourth singles.
  • Jhayden Pappas outlasted Boris Palmade in first singles, dropping the first set 6-1 before rebounding to win the second 6-3 and the tiebreaker 10-6.
  • In doubles play, Willenborg and Tim Holt swept third doubles 8-0, while Bursztyn and Desman took second doubles 8-3, and Gianluca Beaujon and Pappas wrapped up first doubles 8-5.
  • With their 10th dual-match triumph of the season, Salisbury has already matched its win total from the 2023 season when the team went 10-9.

  • The Sea Gulls will have over a week off before hitting the road to face Haverford on Friday, Apr. 5.
