No. 5 Baseball blanks Neumann, 10-0

SALISBURY, Md.Aidan Brinsfield struck out 10 over eight shutout innings as the fifth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team blanked the Neumann Knights, 10-0 in eight innings, on Tuesday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls pounced early by putting up four in the first inning. The first three batters singled to load the bases, then Danny Sheeler was plunked to force in a run and Alex Seidleck hit into an RBI groundout. After a walk to load them up again, Adam Tommer dunked a two-run single into left to put SU on top 4-0.
  • From there the game settled into a pitchers' duel, with Aidan Brinsfield shutting the Knights all day while Neumann starter JerVal Shuler overcame a rocky first inning and put up four straight zeroes.
  • Salisbury added to its lead in the sixth. Ben Anderson led off with a double and Tommer tripled him home. Tommer scored two batters later on a base hit by Dom Frigiola, then after a foulout and a walk Dylan Winebrenner golfed an RBI double into left to make it 7-0.
  • In the eighth, Trent Waire singled to lead off and three batters later Tim Petrucelli cracked a towering two-run homer to right to make it 9-0. Winebrenner followed with a double and Sheeler singled home pinch-runner Kevin Dall to make it 10-0, at which point the game ended as Salisbury reached the agreed-upon mercy rule margin.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Adam Tommer batted 2-for-4 with a triple, run, and team-high three RBIs to pace the Sea Gulls.
  • Tim Petrucelli went 2-for-4 with his team-leading seventh home run of the year, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • Dylan Winebrenner doubled twice, finishing 3-for-5 with a run and a rib-eye.
  • Danny Sheeler went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
  • Aidan Brinsfield (4-0) twirled eight scoreless two-hit innings, walking one and striking out 10 over 99 pitches. Brinsfield now carries a 15.2-inning scoreless streak dating back to Mar. 29.
  • Brinsfield is officially credited with a complete-game shutout. It marks the first complete game for a Sea Gull starter since Jackson Balzan went nine innings to beat UW-La Crosse at the 2023 College World Series, as well as Salisbury's first complete-game shutout since Xavier Marmol blanked York (Pa.) over nine innings on Apr. 13, 2019.
NEUMANN GAME NOTES
  • Joe Boccio and Nick Glebocki had the only two hits for the Knights, both singles.
  • JerVal Shuler (1-1) rebounded from a shaky start but took the loss after giving up four runs on five hits in five innings. He walked three and fanned four on 86 pitches.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls will play at home for a third straight day on Wednesday against Stevenson. First pitch from Donnie Williams Stadium is 3 p.m.
