No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse locks down fourth straight C2C title over No. 21 CNU, 15-4

SALISBURY, Md. – The fifth-ranked and top-seeded Salisbury University women's lacrosse team rolled to its fourth consecutive and 22nd overall Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Championship with a 15-4 thumping of seventh-ranked and second-seeded Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon inside Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Syd Guidi got the Captains on the board first, firing a free-position goal in less than two minutes that gave CNU an early 1-0 advantage.
  • The Sea Gulls responded with 15 unanswered goals, including a 5-0 run to finish the quarter. Grace Doyle found Erin Scannell for her first score of the day before Camryn Pepper distributed a feed to Leah Vilov to take the lead and Scannell's second score extended the lead through just over five minutes, 3-1.
  • Salisbury tacked on two more, both aided by Pepper. She scored before aiding a Vilov man-up goal 39 seconds later, setting the score through 15 minutes at 5-1.
  • Pepper, Scannell, and Caroline Knight each recorded unassisted goals in the opening 4:34 of the second quarter to widen the gap to seven. Mary Hanzsche and Meridith Price delivered assists to Vilov and Miranda Mears, respectively, in 15 seconds to top double-digits with 8:25 left in the half, 10-1.
  • Scannell's fourth goal, scored with just under six minutes to go in the stanza, proved important as it triggered the running clock and ultimately sent the teams to the intermission with an 11-1 tally.
  • The Sea Gulls made the task taller with a four-goal sweep of the Captains in the third quarter. A solo strike from Knight started the scoring over five minutes in before Price fed Pepper over three minutes later for SU's 13th goal. Hanzsche dished a helper to Alexandra Parker before calling her own number to wrap the run, giving the hosts a 15-1 lead with 15 minutes remaining.
  • CNU scored three unanswered goals in the fourth, but the Sea Gulls held strong down the stretch to secure the conference title.
