GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the second straight year, distance runner
Sam Bodmer of the Salisbury University cross country and track & field teams has been recognized as one of his sports' brightest minds, earning a
spot on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Second Team on Wednesday afternoon.
Bodmer, a senior from Dickerson, Md., becomes the
48th Academic All-American in Sea Gull athletics history and third of the 2023-24 academic year (
Abby Mace and
Meghan Reed, softball). He is also just the ninth Salisbury athlete to earn multiple Academic All-America nods after making the Second Team in 2023.
Bodmer graduated from SU this spring with a perfect 4.00 grade-point average as a Biology major on a Pre-Med track with minors in Chemistry and Psychology, making the Dean's List in every semester. A member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honors Society and president of the SU Catholic Campus Ministry, Bodmer also worked as a medical scribe at TidalHealth in Salisbury.
During the cross country slate, Bodmer was named the sport's Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight season. He earned Second-Team All-C2C honors by finishing 14th at the C2C Championships in October and also competed in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional race in November.
In his final track season, Bodmer finished top-10 in seven out of the eight races he ran across the indoor and outdoor calendars. He finished seventh in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters at the C2C Indoor Championships and took 10th in the 10,000 meters at the C2C Outdoor Championships.
Bodmer was voted to the Academic All-America teams from the pool of Academic All-District honorees. The Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects of the 2023-24 Division III Academic All-America program.
