SALISBURY, Md. — The first recipient of the
Mike McGlinchey Memorial Endowment at Salisbury University, Joey Vaughan, has accepted a full-time coaching position at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
After transferring to SU from Penn State University in 2019, injuries cut short his playing career, but his passion for the game led him to the coaching ranks, in which he has thrived. Vaughan joined the SU Football Program in 2021 as a video coordinator and general assistant. Through his hard work and dedication, he earned the trust of the players and coaches and in his second year at SU he was named as an assistant coach through the Mike McGlinchey Memorial Endowment Fund. In 2022 and 2023 he was promoted to assistant coach for defensive backs and safeties and was instrumental in helping the Sea Gulls clinch the 2022 New Jersey Athletic Conference title. During those two seasons, Vaughan played a key role in the development of all-conference defensive back

A native of Northern Virginia, Vaughan attended Oakton High School, where he excelled in both football and baseball. Upon graduation in 2015, he enrolled at Penn State University for two years prior to transferring to Salisbury University.
During the 2024 season, Vaughan joins Head Coach Anthony Van-Curen and the FDU football staff as a full-time assistant coach with responsibilities as Pass Game Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach. Last season FDU finished with a 5-5 record as it continues to grow and develop its program.
Vaughan was the first recipient of the Mike McGlinchey Endowment Fund during the 2022-23 academic year, which was established by former players and SU alumni to provide support to young coaches in the development and pursuit of their careers.
About The Mike McGlinchey Memorial Endowment
During the decades of the 1970's and 80's, Coach Mike McGlinchey established an early foundation of excellence and national prominence in both football and wrestling at then Salisbury State College. He was loved and highly respected by students, athletes, faculty and the community at large for his unmatched intensity, discipline and commitment to excellence. He shaped the character and confidence of hundreds of young student-athletes well beyond the sport itself and upheld this commitment through the end of his life. McGlinchey embodied the spirit of overcoming adversity, rising to your maximum potential and never fearing to take on the greater challenge. He pushed his players to attain a level of performance that they would not have otherwise envisioned, and he continues to stand as a strong role model to this day. We lost Coach McGlinchey in 1997, at a young age and after a long battle with ALS. His memory and legacy are branded into the success and history of this great institution.
