SAINT MARYS CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball program picked up two wins improving to 11-2 after beating St. Mary's (Md.) 3-1 and Hollins 3-0 Saturday afternoon inside the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.
MATCH ONE
The Sea Gulls cruised to a set one win 25-11 before dropping the second set 26-24. Salisbury picked up 25-21 and 25-20 wins in the next two sets to take the match. The team tallied a .290 hitting percentage for the entire match with their best percentage (.385) coming in the first set blowout.
Defensively they held St. Mary's to just a .100 hitting percentage earning 15 more kills through the four-set match. Salisbury also racked up seven blocks and nine service aces.
Game Notes
- Julie Altieri racked up 43 assists with 14 digs, four kills, and two service aces
- Grace Rail led the team with 18 digs while also picking up four assists and two service aces
- Gwen Eustace led the team with 15 kills swinging a .464
- Jackie Mitchell racked up a double-double with 13 digs and 10 kills
MATCH TWO
The Sea Gulls cruised in each set in the win over Hollins outscoring them 75-29 in the three-set win. Salisbury tallied 17 total service aces throughout the match while also racking up a whopping .424 hitting percentage. Defensively they picked up six blocks while holding Hollins to a -.090 hitting percentage.
Game Notes
- Rail once again led the team in digs with 18 while also adding five service aces
- Natalie Uibel had a team-high six service aces along with six digs and nine kills
- Kiley McTaggart also tallied nine kills swinging a .692 hitting percentage
- Eustace totaled eight kills with a .800 hitting percentage
- Altieri racked up 28 assists
The Sea Gulls are back in action on Sep. 28
th when they head to Gettysburg, Pa. for a tri-match against Stockton and Gettysburg at 3 and 5 p.m.
